The Face of Evil by tanikel The Face of Evil by tanikel
Loki the demonkitty.
Fort Meade, MD | November 12th, 2010
Nikon D90

Why do I love her? I don't. She sneaks up to my face to suffocate me at night, licks inside my ear to wake me up, lays on my keyboard when she feels she isn't getting enough attention, uses my face as a spring-board to attack any bugs on the window, sits in my lap so she can 'quality control' my food while I'm eating, and ninja-jumps at me from under the dining room table. Oh, can't forget the fact that she likes to monitor my bathroom habits and enjoys licking my feet dry when I get out of the shower. =/

But she also plays with my son and curls up beside him at night, sometimes with a foreleg over him like a cuddlebuddy and tolerates being hugged and loved on when I've had a bad day. Loki also loves to play with my son, especially when he pushes balls around. I guess she's alright.

Your cat is adorable! I have a black kitten-like cat too :3

So firstly, I'm aware that to get a good quality photo of a cat it has to be a photogenic cat, and it has to be positioned just right. Now, although this is technically down to the cat, I want to congratulate you for it. The cat's position is one of the main reasons this photo is so excellent. You have captured it looking at the camera and in a brilliant freeze frame! Welldone - that is a very hard thing to do with a living creature, and is one of the reasons it makes photographing them so challenging!

Another thing that adds to the brilliant quality of this photo, aside from the type of camera, is the OUTSTANDING focus. You have angled it perfectly, and I think it's stupidly good. The eyes are clear and bright, and really bring a point to the image, yet nothing else looks out of focus in the face..

This brings me on to my one negative comment. I think the paws and other parts around the outside could be little less blurry. This would mirror the minimal and, in my opinion, just right, contrast in focus between the eyes and the rest of the face.

Lovely cat and photo though. Really, be proud. Also, I feel the signature looks elegant and doesn't attract attention away from the cat in anyway, just completes the professional vibe of the shot. Great.

Before I even start, Loki is an amazing name, especially for a black cat. It captures her personality well. (That, and I just really like that villain in the Avengers/ Thor.)

I know you couldn't control your cat's color, but there are a lot of themes with black cats with green eyes with a more orange background, especially when associated with evil. However, your cat's "I like attention, let me pose for you" attitude is very charming and pretty unique. She almost looks too cute for words. I love how you focused this, and how most of her isn't in the direct center of the photo. The water-mark is visible and clear but not distracting. This is very well done.

Is she a cuddlemonster too?  Whenever I'm holding still, Loki HAS to be latched on.

It depends.  She's kind of bi-polar, which I hear is just a calico thing lol.

Good name for a cat.
Loki was a shapeshifter and trickster.
But HE WAS NOT EVIL.
He was like Mercury/Hermes and even like Prometheus and Hephaistos.
The devil association came with Christianity.
Pagan deities were like nature always ambiguous.

The Edda describes like the Veda or other epic stories about gods
the natural cycles of nature, being born and dying - yes the gods also die.
Only creation itself is eternal.
Loki/Lughus the harsh summer sun killed Bel/Balder the gentle spring sun - it#s only an allegory.
The mistle twig as weapon, a symbol of winter.
And initially Loki was blood (twin) brother of Odin, who was also like greek Mercury, mixed a bit with Zeus/Apollo.
They were like 2 sides of a coin.
Greek gods are not completely parallel the norse pantheon. In Norse gods you have more complex mixtures.
Odin=Mercury/Apollon/Jupiter
Loki=Mercury/Hephaistos/Prometheus, he is the dark twin.
Balder=Phaeton/Helios/Hyperion
Thor=Ares/Zeus the fertile Sky father (thunder brings rain, he protects farmers and hospitality, like roman Mars, the hammer being a phallus symbol) his symbol are goats - fertile critters -lol!
Tyr is the Ares type more purely, a war god.
Norse gods have more archaical, shamanic traits.

Cats were sacred to Freya, mistress of magic.

I actually forgot a lot of that mythology despite Loki being one of my favorites (sadly enough, the name fits George better
than it fits my cuddlebug these days).

It does take some time to get used to.  :giggle:
Mine has gotten into the terrible habit of climbing onto the door of our downstairs shower and reaching down to help us wash our hair.  Or just sit there and creep.

some friends of ours have a cat that taught itself to use the toilet.   I didn't believe that, until they showed us the video.  Last I heard she hadn't figured out how to flush yet...still spooky...Shocked

That is funny,
I would then say that about my puppy she is about 8 weeks and completely terrorize my for children with all the baiting all day long,
I thought it would be nice to have a dog,
But so far is absolutely stressful,

But she is a beautiful dog:)

Aww.  what kind of dog do you have?

Loki's mellowed out over the years, she's an absolute cuddlebug.  George is our new terror - she chases Loki around the house all day and pounces on my odest boy when he's playing with her.  I've never seen a cat so energetic!  xD

Hehe, the licking part is kinda funny. As for the attacking part, that's really surprising.
Funny, my brother has a black cat that looks like this one, and she is a sweetie! She's one of the lovable cats ever! When she's on her own turf, she loves on people A LOT! Still, she is an adorable black cat that looooooves attention :meow:
