Pony! Assateague Island National Seashore Berlin, MD October 08, 2012 Canon 5D MkII
Lesson learned: don't trust an 'old' GPS and don't get the urge to photograph feral ponies when it's freezing cold and wet out. It makes for a miserable experience. On the bright side, though, I found this fellow! The sole reason for the four-hour drive out there.
Edit 21 Oct., 2012: Switched from a medium shot to one taken farther back. I feel that this one is a little bit better than the previous file.
This is such a beautiful photograph, I couldn't help but take the opertunity to critique, and tell you how I think you made it beautiful!
Vision: For starters, to me it doesn't look like a quick press and shoot, although I suspect not much planning was created when getting the photograph. I do think the highlight is the background, the colours really do create the perfect image! The horse is nice and sharp, and the way the horses head is looking away from us, makes us follow the eyes and wonder what the horse was focusing on, creating mystery.
Originality: I've given you top marks for originality because I haven't seen a photograph quite like this, the colours just woke so well together, and contrast, I honestly don't think I could look at this and get fed up! I'd love to hear more about how you took it!
Technique: To be honest, I didn't really know what to put here because I think I've explained up above why I like this photograph, and the angles you've taken it at, which brings it together so I gave you a generous 4.5 because again, the image is beautiful.
Impact: The image makes me think about something, It takes me past the image due to the colours, there not bright and in your face there suttle, gentle and warm. I'm a huge fan, and this horse looks beautiful too! Everything has come together and just made this spectacular!
One small tip would be next time to maybe use another horse? A grey or something so you get large contrast but that's just me being picky. Great Job!
That is a beautiful horse... This is a lovely and rich photo. It has a nice composition and contrast, but perhaps a bit more editing would have made it superb. Lovely work all the same
