U.S. Army Soldiers with 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment prepare a concertina wire barrier along Route Chilliwack in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, 07 Feb., 2012. The purpose of the operation was to construct a strong point and deny the enemy freedom of movement and evacuation. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Kristina Truluck, 55th Signal Company (COMCAM)/Released)

What makes this photo work is the strong focus on the person to the left, purposefully striding forward in the image. The directional lines of the barb wired fence and the horizon line intersect at the waist of the figure, which adds more focus to him. What would make this image great rather than good would be some more contrast or color editing. There are a lot of the same tones in this image, from the sand and uniforms to the brush in the background. If you were willing to edit your image further I would experiment bringing out some more of the reds and blues in selective color. More contrast at least will add even more depth to your image. While the focus already has a certain amount of depth, more contrast would really make this pop.
I am glad. Well, the truth is I respect so much what you do. Your work is perfect technically and it gives us the opportunity to see something we can not see on the news or elsewhere. But the most joyful photos and the most beautiful are the ones when you go back home. It is wonderful to see that change in you.
